Pradosh Vrat, which is also known as Pradosham in South India is observed to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.  According to the Hindu calendar, Pradosh Vrat is observed twice every month. It is observed on Trayodashi tithi (13th day) of Krishna and Shukla Paksha.

When the Pradosham falls on Monday, it is referred to as Soma Pradosham and when it falls on Tuesday, it is known as Bhauma Pradosham. If the Pradosham falls on Saturday, it called Shani Pradosham.

The Pradosh vrat can be observed by people of all age groups and they observe this vrat with proper devotion and dedication. Lord Shiva’s ardent worshippers observe fast on this day too seek his blessings.

According to Hindu sacred texts, it is believed that Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati is extremely generous and delighted on this auspicious day. Thus, the followers observe fast and worship the deity to seek divine blessings and to seek liberation and salvation.

One who observes fast on this day is bound to possess wealth, contentment and good health. It is one of the sacred Hindu fasts in the Hindu calendar and symbolises victory and courage.
